What is EIP?
EIP stands for Early Intervention Program.
The Early Intervention Program is designed to service students who are at risk of not
reaching or maintaining academic grade level in the content areas of reading and math.
The purpose of the EIP program is to provide additional resources and focused small-group
instruction to help students who are performing below grade level, with the goal of helping students
obtain the necessary academic skills to reach and maintain grade-level performance in the shortest
time possible.
EIP is not special education.
At CES, students receive EIP services one day each week. New content will not be introduced in the students'
homeroom class on the day he/she attends EIP.
EIP is in addition to instruction received in the regular classroom. It is offered as supplementary instruction in
reading and math. Students will not miss or be held accountable for any regular classroom assignments on
their EIP day.
EIP teachers do not give grades to students. Content covered during EIP class is based on grade-level standards and is
supplementary to instruction in the regular classroom. In Mrs. Gaines' EIP reading classes, students will participate in
activities each week that will help them master and strengthen skills in all areas of the reading process: decoding/phonics, fluency,
comprehension, vocabulary, and writing.
