CVA - Cartersville Virtual Academy
In response to the needs of our community, Cartersville City Schools has added a new full-time online option for our K-12 students during the 2020-21 school year. Students use the following platforms during the school year: Edgenuity, Schoology, Office 365, and Microsoft Teams.

Office 365
The suite of Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) plus the other productivity applications that are enabled over the Internet (Cloud Services).

OneDrive
Microsoft’s solution for hosting files in the “cloud”. OneDrive allows teachers to store, share, and sync files across many devices. This includes tablets and smart phones.

Parent/Teacher Blackboard Messaging
Our mass communication and teacher-to-home communication system. Teacher and Administration messaging tools, they can work with parents to give them the information they need about their classes and schools.

PowerSchool
PowerSchool is the student information system used by Cartersville City Schools. It is a webbased application that allows parents and students to log into a secure account from home, school or work; access grades, attendance, E-Textbooks, and SLDS (Statewide Longitudinal Data System).

Schoology
Schoology is our learning management system. It serves as a “digital hub” to keep things organized and easily accessible.This is where teachers will post their classroom materials, post and collect assignments electronically, and will assess students. Students need to check Schoology daily.

1-1 Technology
One device per student in the classroom with the goal of making learning more individualized and to extend academics beyond the four-walled classroom.

21st Century Learning
Skills such as digital literacy, problem-solving, and collaboration that students need thrive in today's world. Technology gives us an ability to focus on criticial thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity

Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
Policy that outlines, in writing, how a school or district expects its community members to behave with technology.

App or Application
Applications are software that can be used for specific functions. They can be launched from the computer, web browser, or a mobile device.

Asynchronous Learning
A student-centered teaching method that uses online resources to facilitate learning without requiring students and instructors to be in the same place at the same time. -
Blended Learning
A pedagogical model that combines online and on-site learning and supports some element of student control over the time, place, path, and or/pace of their learning experience. -
Digital Citizenship
The practice of navigating the digital world safely, responsibly, and ethically. -
Digital Footprint
A record of everything an individual does online, including the content he or she uploads. Online information can migrate, persist, and resurface years later. -
Flipped Classroom
A model in which students access the directed teaching (lectures) at home, usually through videos, and they then spend their valuable classroom time applying skills through inquiry-based learning in a collaborative space and with the facilitation of and feedback from an instructor.
