• The Weather Report: Hurricane Band News: June Edition 2024

    Dear Hurricane Band Family,

I trust this message finds you well as we embrace the summer season. I hope you are relishing quality moments with your children during these fleeting four years. As we approach the upcoming events, I encourage you to cherish these precious times with your students.

Our calendar is marked with the following important dates:

    1. Guard & Percussion Camp: Only 28 days remain until our Guard & Percussion Camp. (July 10-July 12)
    2. New Wind Member Camp: A mere 29 days separate us from the New Wind Member Camp. (July 11 & July 12)
    3. Band Camp: We eagerly anticipate the start of Band Camp, which is just 32 days away. (July 15-19 & July 22-26)

2024 Production: Dichotomy We are thrilled to commence work on our 2024 production, titled “Dichotomy.” To ensure physical readiness for the demands of marching band, please adhere to the following guidelines:

    • Stretch: Begin each day with a thorough stretching routine to warm up your body and elevate your heart rate.
    • Cardio: Dedicate at least 30 minutes daily to walking, jogging, or running. This cardiovascular exercise will prove invaluable during band camp.
    • Strength Training: Engage in strength-building exercises at home, such as push-ups, triceps extensions, sit-ups, and burpees. These activities will enhance your endurance and resilience.
    • Hydration: Prioritize water consumption over sugary beverages.

Parental Support Our booster club plays a pivotal role in supporting our students and parents. We invite you to contribute by filling the following essential positions on our booster board:

    1. Concession Stand Managers (4 positions):
      • Conduct inventory checks at the end of Friday or Saturday nights.
      • Coordinate item orders for upcoming games.
      • Manage both home and away concession stands, fostering a positive atmosphere and assisting volunteers as needed.
      • Handle end-of-night funds with Mr. Moon.
    1. Volunteer Coordinator (can be 2 people):
      • Recruit and organize volunteers for all events.
      • Collaborate with the Band Directors to ensure appropriate staffing.
      • Submit personnel lists to our Athletic Director, Darrell Demastus.
    1. Fundraising Coordinator(s) (can be 2 people):
      • Work closely with the Band Directors to secure funds and sponsorships.
      • Bring fresh fundraising ideas to the booster club.

Your involvement matters! As DeAnn Hollis aptly stated, “The heart of a volunteer is never measured in size but by the depth of commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.” I sincerely hope you will find it in your heart to contribute.
