Description:
These courses have an emphasis on strength development, proper lifting techniques, and aerobic conditioning. Other concepts for developing healthy lifetime habits are also included. Students will receive differentiation instruction to help meet their strength goals. Physical Conditioning/ Advanced Physical Conditioning/ Weight Training/ Advanced Weight Training/ Body Sculpting/ at Cartersville High School is an elective course and is not required for graduation. Therefore, it is a privilege to be enrolled in this class. It is very important that you, as a student, be on your best behavior for safety reasons as well as not distracting other students. With safety being a major concern there are additional rules to your handbook by which you must abide.
Student Objectives:
The students will demonstrate proper classroom behaviors
The students employ proper technique when lifting
The students will use proper technique when spotting
The students will correctly perform warm up activities
The students will improve their physical strength
Resources:
The students will use free weights; weight Machines, and numerous other types of speed and conditioning accessories in our state of the art facilities as well as outside.
GRADING:
40% Formative (Dressed appropriately, on task, and Lifting daily)
60% Summative (Testing weeks, data/ metric collecting days)
Students may earn a total of 20 points per day towards their Formative weekly grade. To earn your participation points for any day you are absent from class, you will need to see one of your teachers to make up the missed work.
10% of overall grade is the Final Exam
- A note from parent will suffice for one to two days of inactivity. After two days, a note from a doctor is required to be excused without penalty from participation. These days will need to be made up. You must participate daily. All missed activities must be made up.
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
- Commit to excellence: Work hard daily to improve. Always Lift at your specified time.
- Own your own Behavior: Keep all cell phones put away
- Demonstrate Respect: Be on Time and Prepared. Push yourself to improve.
- Exhibit a positive attitude: Properly spot your partner and lift at your specific designated time.
CLASS POLICIES
- All liability (lost or stolen items) lies with the responsibility of the student
- We strongly urge all individuals to leave any valuables in their hall lockers or at home. Ultimately you are responsible for your belongings! Do not bring valuable items to school. Do not leave valuables sitting out in the locker room.
- Students are not allowed to leave the class area without the teacher’s permission.
Additional rules:
- Cell phones are not to be used or visible while in the weight room.
- You must be inside the weight room when the tardy bell rings
- There will be no horseplay in the weight room
- Stay inside the weight room during class.
- Stay at your workstation.
- Use collars when lifting
- Keep your work area clean
